December 2020 : Lab member Maricar Aguilos receives the 2020 Outstanding Reviewer Award given by the Forests Journal of MPDI.
April 2020 : Lab member Omoyemeh Ile, a Master Student under John King receives the Namkoong Family Graduate Fellowship Award for her excellent performance in coursework, research accomplishments, success as a teaching assistant and service and involvement in departmental and professional affairs of FER.
December 2019: Kevan Minick and Maricar Aguilos travel to San Francisco, California to present their researches at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Meeting.
October 2019: Maricar Aguilos receives Professional Development Award from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and the Graduate School of North Carolina State University.

December 2013: John travels to Mendel University, Brno, Czech Republic, for research collaboration. John serves on two PhD juries at the University of Antwerp in Belgium.
November 2013: John gives an invited talk on the lab's research at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge at a USFS Joint Fires Sciences Program workshop in Manteo.
October 2013: John and Janine travel to Washington, DC, to present pine-switch grass research results at the Association for the Advancement of Industrial Crops annual meeting, and USDA NIFA Annual Investigators Meeting.
August 2013: Eric and JC present their research at the annual ESA meeting in Minneapolis.
August - September 2013:
Milan Fischer, a colleague from Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic, is visiting to conduct research campaign on our bioenergy Populus plantations.
July 31, 2013 -Guofang has successfully defended her dissertation:
A multi-scale study on respiratory processes in a lower coastal plain forested wetland in the Southeastern United States.

May 11, 2013 - Graduating senior from our lab, Tyler Hill, received a certification of recognition from the lab for his outstanding leadership during the establishment of the Butner SRC Drought Experiment.
April 2013 - John took he's Advanced Ecosystem Ecology class to visit two of the lab's research sites: Taylor Tract (Tip Moth Control in Loblolly plantations) and Alligator River.
April 2013 - Wen wins 3rd place for her poster presentation at the annual PINEMAP project meeting.
April 18, 2013 - David is a recipient of a Southeast Climate Science Center Global Change Fellowship for 2013-2014!
April 16, 2013 - David and Wen are awarded Forestry and Environmental Resources Faculty Fellowships for Excellence in Graduate Education and Service. Congratulations to both of them!
April 1, 2013 - Milan Fischer, a visiting colleague from Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic will be giving the FER departmental seminar about productivity and water use of Populus in short-rotation coppice bioenergy plantations. The seminar is at 3:30 in 2010 Biltmore Hall, NCSU. Please join us!
March 2013 - The lab receives a grant from the Carolinas Integrated Sciences & Assessments to expand our work at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Read more about our project here.

- Eric: Transpiration and Canopy Conductance of Loblolly Pine with Fertilization and Throughfall Exclusion
- Alexia: Pest pressure, site conditions, hurricanes, and genetics affect stem morphology in young loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantations in the upper and lower coastal plains of North Carolina

May 14-15, 2013 - Asko attended the 2013 TES/SBR Joint Investigators Meeting. Asko, JC, and Chris Oishi presented the following:
- Talk (Asko & JC): Convergence of the effect of root hydraulic functioning and root hydraulic redistribution on ecosystem carbon balance and drought-induced vegetation mortality across divergent forest ecosystems
- Poster 1 (Asko & JC): Reduced hydraulic redistribution under future climate will affect root water uptake and ecosystem carbon balance across divergent forest ecosystems
- Poster 2 (Chris & JC): Quantifying the impact of nighttime transpiration on the magnitude of hydraulic redistribution in an unmanaged forest ecosystem (Duke Hardwood site, NC).
